1158 ET – CN Rail had some setbacks late in the year, which will be a drag on the Canadian railroad operator. National Bank of Canada’s Cameron Doerksen says in a report that 4Q needed to show some improvement for the company to reach its 3%-5% guidance for revenue ton-miles. However, Doerksen says that due largely to the early onset of winter as well as some derailments late in the quarter, which also added to costs, 4Q volumes were down 3.2% with volumes for the year finishing just 1.1% higher. This should hit earnings, the analyst says, but notes that the relative valuation of the railroad still remains attractive. (adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
