A man has appeared in court charged with threatening to kill Tanaiste Simon Harris.
Michael Murray (54), with an address at the Midlands Prison, appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court on Wednesday morning. He is accused of making a threat to a woman, intending that she would believe it would be carried out to kill or cause Simon Harris serious harm.
The alleged threat was made at a location within the State on June 26 of last year. The offence is contrary to Section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997 - an offence which can see a person face up to 10 years in prison on conviction.
Mr Murray was remanded into custody to appear before the court again on April 16.
