Two sections of the M9 motorway are to close overnight in the coming weeks as work to resurface the stretches begins.

Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, will resurface the two sections near Stirling, beginning with work on the souithbound carriageway between junctions 11 and 10.

The resurfacing improvements will address existing defects within the carriageway, ensuring the continued integrity and safety of the motorway.

That work will see the southbound carriageway closed between 7.30pm and 6am from Monday, April 14, for three nights.

During the closures, a signed diversion route will be in place for the southbound traffic wishing to travel on the M9.

The diversion route will exit Keir Roundabout towards A9 Bridge of Allan, stay on the A9 until the Airthrey Roundabout.

Stay on Alloa road until the Manor Powis Roundabout and take the third exit onto the A91. Follow the A91 until the Bannockburn Interchange and rejoin M9 via the first exit.

This diversion will add approximately 17 minutes and 8.8-miles onto journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve the road quality and safety for motorists using this section of the M9. Making use of sustainable techniques to minimise the environmental impact of the works.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience.”

Additionally, further resurfacing works will also take place on a 0.7-kilometre section of the M9 northbound, between junction 9 and the M9/M80 merge.

The route there will be closed each night between 7.30pm and 6am from Monday, April 28, until Friday, May 2.

A signed diversion will be in place, leading northbound traffic off the M9 at the junction 9 off-slip via the A91 towards Millhall Roundabout. Traffic will then follow an alternative route through Cornton, via the A905, A9 and B823 before rejoining the M9 at Junction 11 at the Keir Roundabout.

This diversion will add approximately nine minutes and 0.6 miles to affected journeys.

Mr Deans added: “It’s essential for safety that we close these sections of carriageway while resurfacing take place.

“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however we appreciate that this will cause delays and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.”

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times for the works.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
