Two arrests after police attend report of 'woman making threats'
A man and a woman have been arrested as police officers were seen leaving a property with evidence bags containing large knives.
A man and a woman from Newport have been arrested in a police incident that saw officers carrying bags of knives from a block of flats.
Officers from Gwent Police were sent to an address on Penkin Hill, Alway after receiving a call saying a woman was threatening another member of the public on the morning of April 7.
At around 9am police were pictured leaving the block of flats with evidence bags full of weapons including large knives.
A woman was arrested on suspicion of affray but later released with no further action to be taken. A man was also arrested and recalled to prison.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We received a call to an allegation of a woman making threats, in the area of Penkin Hill, at about 9.15am on 7 April.
"Officers attended and a woman was arrested on suspicion of affray.
"Following further enquiries, the woman was released with no further action.
"There is no ongoing investigation. Officers also arrested a man at the same time who had been recalled to prison."
