Beloved Dublin pizza chain Bambino has been refused permission for an outdoor seating location at its Merrion Street premises.
The outlet, which is known across Ireland for its slices of pizza, had attempted to get a street furniture license from Dublin City Council for the seating. But it was referred to the planning department due to the seating being placed on private land.
Despite efforts to regularise the four high dining tables, the owners of Bambino have been refused permission to have it at the Merrion Street premises. The outlet had initially begun as a pop-up store but has proved popular enough to become a regular location, with the proposed seating hoping to provide for more customers.
The decision said the seating would "endanger public safety by reason of traffic hazard, or obstruction of road users on the footpath". It also said that it would be contrary to the Dublin City Council development plan and create an "undesirable precedent".
In its refusal to grant permission, DCC also said the seating would have a "significant adverse visual impact" on the architectural character and setting of the protected structure. It also said that the seating would also have a negative impact on the historic streetscape.
