Emergency services surrounded a block of flats in Bootle this afternoon. Merseyside Police were called to a concern for safety for five men inside a flat at Strand House on Washington Parade at around 4.20pm on Wednesday, April 2.

After officers attended the flat, however, it was established no one inside was hurt or in danger. A man in his 50s was assessed by paramedics and confirmed to be in good health, police said.

A number of police cars and several ambulances were parked outside the flats and a cordon was put in place while officers dealt with the incident inside the building.

One resident, who lives at Strand House, described how he came home to a "load of police and ambulance" outside the building. The man, who does not wish to be named, told the ECHO: "I came home at about 4.25pm to a load of police cars.

"There was a cordon outside and community officers asked us to stay away so they could assess the situation. About five minutes later they took the cordon down and we were allowed back into the building."
