Ruben Amorim's Man Utd 'lower their demands' for Alejandro Garnacho as exit looms
Reports in Italy suggest Man Utd will accept a lower bid for Alejandro Garnacho than previously thought but Napoli still need to up their offer to convince Ruben Amorim to sell his Argentine playmaker
Manchester United are said to have lowered their asking price for Alejandro Garnacho as Ruben Amorim seeks to flog the forward this month.
Amorim has wielded the axe since taking over as United boss, dropping Garnacho for the win over rivals City in the Manchester derby before reintroducing him, while completely shutting Marcus Rashford out of the Old Trafford club's matchday squads, leaving him desperate to leave.
There has been plenty of interest in the pair, with United now 'lowering their demands' for Garnacho in talks with Napoli, according to Sky in Italy.
United are said to have come down from their initial asking price of £60m after holding talks with Napoli on Tuesday and are now open to doing business at around £55m for the Argentine, 20.
Serie A side Napoli, managed by former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, are yet to come anywhere near that asking price and are looking to spend £46m for the playmaker, but a compromise deal at around £50m could be on the cards.
Napoli have recent form for deals with United, having signed Scott McTominay from Old Trafford in the summer – alongside his fellow Scotland international Billy Gilmour from Brighton – which has seen his career reach a new level.
And the Italian side have made Garnacho their No.1 choice to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has now joined Paris Saint-Germain. It's understood Garnacho is open to leaving Old Trafford, and is interested in a move to Naples.
United have already turned down an offer of £40m from Conte's outfit while United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to raise funds and not sell one of the club's top talents in a cut-price deal.
Garnacho joined United's youth system from Atletico Madrid back in October 2020, going on to win the FA Youth Cup and the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in May 2022 – a month after making his first-team debut at the age of 17.
But he has struggled to adapt to Amorim's new style of play and has started just six of the 15 games since the Portuguese took over and should Napoli provide an acceptable offer, he will soon be on his way.
