Production at a manufacturing facility on the Pyewipe industrial estate in Grimsby will officially cease today - with 26 employees unfortunately set to be made redundant.
Solenis - which is situated on Moody Lane and produces polymers for mining and mineral processing industries - conducted a review of the sourcing of products after taking over the business from BASF in November last year.
According to a spokesperson, the outcome of the review resulted in a proposal to close the facility and instead outsource products to a third-party supplier in China. The 26 employees at the site were notified and a consultation process into their redundancies was held.
Production at the Solenis facility will come to an end today, with decommissioning to follow for the next four to six months.
A spokesperson for Solenis said: "On Monday 4 November 2024, Solenis completed the acquisition of BASF’s flocculant business for mining applications.
"As a result of this business transaction, Solenis conducted a strategic review of the sourcing of products used in the mining and mineral processing business to optimise costs, service and quality for customers.
"The outcome of this review resulted in a proposal to close the Solenis manufacturing facility at Grimsby and outsource products to a third-party supplier in China, with whom Solenis has an existing, established relationship.
"Production at Grimsby will cease today, 31 March 2025, and decommissioning will follow for approximately four to six months.
"The 26 Grimsby employees and trade union representatives were informed of the potential to close the Grimsby site on Thursday 14 November 2024 and a consultation process followed."
